What is your book Love & Consequences about?
Nyema: Love & Consequences is about a young black female from Philadelphia desperate for a way out the ghetto. She transformed from a street chick to a good girl only to get her heart broken and vow to never love again. She breaks that vow when she falls for a 1st round draft pick headed to the NBA, assuming he would be her meal ticket out the hood. When her ex-boyfriend is released from prison and finds out he’s no longer the one to hold a key to her heart, he gives her two options. Either she would ri de out with him or suffer whatever consequences are to follow. With the consequences being her choice, you could only guess who was lucky enough to make it out alive. Would you consider this an urban tale and why? Yes this is an urban tale. The story is based out of the inner city of Philly following the struggles of all the characters. It's easy for the urban community to laugh and cry with the characters and relate to the storyline.

How long did it take to write your first novel?
Nyema: It took me two weeks to complete my freshman novel. Some find it a little hard to believe, but that's how deep I was into the story. My project became my mate and I stayed on the edge of my seat refusing to stop until knowing how things would end.

Did you include any of your life experiences in the plot of your book?
Nyema: I must say that after experiencing heartache in the past, I found it easier to live out my emotional escapades through my characters. They are drawn from my inner feelings, but then I lead them to take on a life of their own.

How would you describe your writing style?
Nyema: My writing style is unique in its own way. It's street with a twist. By that I mean it doesn't just focus on drugs and killing. Violence may be happening everywhere you go, but there is always some love in the air.

What do you think of the urban fiction publishing trend?
Nyema: I think the urban fiction publishing trend is in an uproar right now, but in a positive way. Where do you see it say 5-7 years down the line? I see Longevity growing for urban fiction authors right now. As long as we keep the faith and believe in our God, anything is possible. It’s been pretty rough in the past so to see success is definitely a beautiful and amazing feeling for us all.

Any new/upcoming projects you would like to tell us about?
Nyema: My sophomore novel Deceitful Obsession will hit the market Spring 2007. It's a spin off from "Love & Consequences." It leads you from love to marriage with a twist of fire. Kay and Kassim, both still fairly young, decided to get married after finding out there was a baby in the works. Every woman wants to believe they’re going to live the Cinderella life after exchanging vows, but the truth is all men don’t think the same way. Love, Lust, Betrayal and Revenge fills the air before it's too late to realize that a broken heart is unbearable. After getting reviews, I must say that if you loved or even if you never read Love & Consequences there is so much more to look forward to in this one.

What do you say to the people who are bashing the urban/street/hiphip fiction trend?
Nyema: I say bash on because it doesn't stop there. There is no difference when it comes to rap artists getting bashed, but they're still getting paid to do what they love. It's kind of sad that we can't express ourselves without all the critics, but that's life. Writers write to entertain and we'll keep doing it as long as the fans keep asking for it.

I read ur book and i thought it was amazing! very few books can make u feel the emotion the characters go through....I read ur book in 1 day thats how good it was....It's not like any other urban book, it has very real problems in this...I loved it, I laughed with the characters, i shared there joy, and at the end i cried with them and shared there grief!
